What is web 2.0? Web 2.0 is a name given to the"next generation" of web sites featuring customizable content, social networking and wikis. (The name itself is often called HYPE or even a marketing gimic for new trends on the same old internet)

What do you mean by customizable content?
Customizable content is content that the user can change so that the web page experience is dictated by his/her tastes and interests. Like protopage.com

What's a wiki? Is that one of those Star Wars creatures?
No. I'm afraid you are thinkng of ewoks. Wikis are webistes that allow the user to change content without (in theory) being a registered user (Like wikipedia) .

What's a social network?
Wow. You are really asking a lot of questions today. Cut down on that caffeine! You can read Wikipedia's really unhelpful definition by clicking here, or, you can think of social networks as ways for people to come together on the internet based on interests. These groups are always changing and the content is driven by the group. Some interesting social network are SecondLife,  del.icio.us  digg and of course YouTube to name a few.

So how do I get credit for reading this lovely web-lecturette? Simply email me with the code "the hampster barks at midnight" (seriously) in the subject line of your email, and the URL of one site that you think personifies web2.0. (not listed in the lecture). And, as always, have a nice day.
